Things You Should Watch
I’ve been reading as much as I can these days about how might we plan and design communities that improve quality of life and overall health and wellbeing. In my search, I stumbled across a NFB documentary short, Chairs for Lovers. Stanley King’s approach of co-creating with youth through a “drawn-in/design-in” is incredibly effective at generating creative urban experiences that keep humans at the core. Runtime: 28 minutes
Things You Should Check Out
I love love love this infographic by Giorgia Lupi. She conceived a really creative way of visualizing firsts and lasts she experienced in 2020. It makes me wonder if the inspiration to be found in the mundane in my life.
Things Worth Quoting
A short meetup at a colleague’s desk can result in what the psychiatrist Edward Hallowell calls a human moment: face-to-face encounter that allows for empathy, emotional connection, and nonverbal cues to complement what is actually said. When communication takes place remotely, the connection is severely weakened and nonverbal signals are harder to pick up on, even when people can see each other on a screen. In human moments people are often energized and more likely to empathize with each other, which supports organizational culture and collaboration. Neuroscientific research suggests that the brain chemistry of people in human moments is distinct from that in purely transactional encounters.
